Mental preparation as an athlete is key but more importantly psychological harmony is paramount to health and performance! You have to be aware of negative self-talk, unproductive repetitive thoughts, lack of self-trust in your abilities, over-analysis when competing all of which can take you out of optimal performance. According to the World Health Organization, one in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide. Why then are so many of us affected by mental health disorders? Maybe one reason is that we are not computers, but often we are required to fulfil roles and situations that restrict our ability to be ‘’loose and natural” in our own nature.
